disAMR & AMR Community

It's our business to counter AMR

disAMR is working to protect the foundation of modern medicine, from cancer care to routine surgery, by mobilizing the funding, talent, and urgency needed to ensure that antimicrobial resistance does not undo decades of extraordinary medical progress.

The vision is clear—uniting AMR stakeholders worldwide to accelerate progress and improve human health.

AMR is one of the most pressing global health threats, projected to contribute to nearly 10 million deaths annually by 2050. Addressing this challenge requires continuous global attention, stronger alignment across stakeholders, and long-term, coordinated action. We bring together a global ecosystem of scientists, clinicians, innovators, investors, policymakers, philanthropies, and engaged individuals—creating a platform to connect, align priorities, and accelerate solutions. In parallel, we advocate for the policies, partnerships, and sustained financing needed to translate scientific progress into real-world impact.

Fleming Warned Us,
Yet the Business Problem Remains

The reality and scientific challenge of antimicrobial resistance are well known and have been since the beginning of the antibiotic era. Penicillin, the first true antibiotic, was discovered by Scottish physician and microbiologist Sir Alexander Fleming in 1928. Fleming’s 1945 Nobel Prize acceptance speech warned the world of the dangers of antimicrobial resistance and drug-resistant infections.

AMR is a complex and multifaceted scientific challenge requiring the ongoing work, talents, and dedication of scientists worldwide. disAMR is dedicated to supporting and featuring this work.

However, the fundamental problem, as we see it, is a pragmatic one. Unlike most other areas of medicine, where successful therapeutic innovation is rewarded by clinical adoption and prescription volume, the most successful and powerful antimicrobials are held back. Rightly, stewardship programs restrict the use of novel antimicrobials to preserve their effectiveness, but this commonly leads to devastating commercial outcomes.

Approved antimicrobials generally achieve little revenue, making the space untenable for investors. Large pharmaceutical companies have largely exited the space, and the late-phase pipeline, where the resources of large pharma and investors are essential, is very thin.

The Work Before Us

The AMR crisis is unquestionably multifaceted, offering ample challenges for the scientific, clinical, and policy-making communities. However, until there is an economic market for innovation, the much-needed progress for protecting and advancing human health simply cannot happen.

To create enduring solutions, we believe that private capital must sit at the heart of the solution. Yet governments, policymakers, and non-governmental organizations around the world have extremely critical roles to play. New funding frameworks are emerging, like the UK’s subscription model, yet we believe the ideas for long-lasting solutions are still out there.

Reimaging the Fight Against AMR

The global AMR community has built a remarkable network of researchers, policymakers, surveillance teams, advocates, and a small number of funding organizations working tirelessly to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR). First and foremost, disAMR seeks to facilitate an enduring market for antimicrobial innovation. is approaching the AMR threat from a different angle as drug-resistant infections threaten the entire foundation of modern medicine.

Leveraging multiple strategies and tactics, disAMR seeks to inspire concrete action and workable solutions with an unrelenting commitment to the stance that together, we can and we will counter AMR and the risks it poses.

10 Million Preventable Deaths Annually Is Unacceptable

disAMR is working to create a platform that connects, aligns priorities, and accelerates solutions. While there is much to come, we invite you to explore the platform and join us in working to solve this problem because 10 million deaths at the hands of AMR cannot become the new norm.
